Time from April to October annually is the low season in Phu Quoc island. It’s also an ideal time for people to explore this island. Here are some notes you should consider before a trip to Phu Quoc in low season.
1. Some features of island in low season
Phu Quoc island looks more easeful and peaceful at this time. In high season, the local people work for 6 months, then they stop working and returning with their fishing job and housework. Don’t be surprised if you come to Phu Quoc and see no tourists and some signs writing “See you in October”.
However, this is the flawless time for backpackers to explore and experience the daily life of locals as well as enjoy the noiseless atmosphere and get close to the natural diversity of this small town.
2. How to get to Phu Quoc
That fastes way to get to Phu Quoc island is traveling by airplane. At present, there are two airline firms as Vietnam airlines and Vietjet air offering flights to Phu Quoc from Ho Chi Minh city, Hanoi or Rach Gia. It takes you just from 30 minutes to 2 hours to get Phu Quoc depending on your departure place.
From Rach Gia or Ha Tien, you also can choose to travel to Phu Quoc island by express boats. It takes about 3 hours to get to the island. This will be an interesting trip by boat; however, it can be quiet tough if you transport in tough weather. There are 6 turns a day transporting passengers to the island but there is no departure available in bad weather.
3. Activities on Phu Quoc island
Phu Quoc island is about 50 km in length and the largest place is about 25 km in width and it has the road system connecting towns and communes on the island. At present, the main road system is being upgraded and expanded, therefore, apart from walking round Duong Dong area, you can explore the island by motorbike.
Generally, low season can be compared as rainy season. However, in Phu Quoc, it’s not rainy at all time. There are also days the weather is pretty good and suitable for outdoor activities.
